A close friend of mine is selling his Colt SSA serial #322 348 chambered in .38 wcf. The serial # is stamped in one place, on the bottom of the grip. I know very little about these firearms and would like for any assistance in determining its value. It's difficult for me to rate its condition, not knowing what condition these weapons are SUPPOSED to be in.. as is, the gun is not fire-able. The cylinder does not turn smoothly and it the action slips in and out of the half-cocked position. Can anyone give me some details or suggestions on this weapon? Thank you.

I suspect that even an expert on the SAA would be hard pressed to evaluate condition without even seeing a photo of the revolver. You are the one seeing it, and you are the one thinking about buying it. What's it worth to YOU?

If mechanically broken that is a big downer. I assume finish is in line with function...not good. Sounds like a worn out clunker to me.

No doubt someone would pay $2K for it. These days someone is always willing to pay a huge price. I would not. I would not touch a gun in this condition. Too much to restore and repair to be viable.

A Colt Single Action Army with that serial number should also have it on the bottom front of the frame and on the bottom front of the trigger guard. If those numbers are not there, there is a question about the originality of the gun or perhaps about how/when those numbers were removed.

In order to determine the gun's overall condition, as well as to make even a WAG on value, we will need good pictures.
