Just wanted some input. I have a chance to buy a 1953 vintage Colt full size govt. model 38 Super with two original magazines and box in about 98% shape for $500. What sort of price is that for this gun? Appreciate any help anybody can give.

You can pull my e-mail address from my profile.

Give it to the guy.

You don't want the gun. Almost 1/2 century old (think metal fatigue). Marginally mainstream caliber. Probably won't feed anything reliably except FMJRN.

I, on the other hand, am altruistic. I'd be willing to sacrifice the money to save some novice shooter from getting stuck with this obvious beater.

My dealer would charge $650.

Anyway, it sounds like one of the Colts in my daydreams. I do like them Super .38s!

Commercial Colts of that and later vintage are the sleepers of the auto pistol world. At one gun show, I saw several people pass up Colt .45 Government Models of 1960's-1970's vintage to buy clones at higher prices. One guy passed up a 1960's GM for a Llama, which actually cost more! Absurd!

Jim: Shhhhhhhhhh! It's supposed to be a secret, and if you wave it around, they'll ALL be wanting one!
I encourage any and all would-be 1911 owners to pass up those worthless old Colts and buy a Llama immediately! :D
