Colt 1911 Grip Screws

I have a Colt 1911 Government Model that I am going to get some new grips for. I appears to have torx screws holding the grips on. Does any one know what the torx size is for that model

You can buy a set of torx screwdrivers for those evil things, for not a big pile of money. Personally, I replace 'em.

Just put one in your pocket and head for the nearest hardware store.
But remember not to put it in the pocket with all the keys, knives, coins and lint or you may never find it again.
Didja' know torx and allen head screws can be dealt with using a straight blade screwdriver of suitable size?
Assuming of course you have a nice selection of those.
But who doesn't.
I do it all the time rather than mess around finding the right tool.
Heck, anyone can look good using the right tools.

If you are ordering the grips, check to see if the supplier sells the drivers. It might be worth the extra $ to keep from making a trip to the hardware store.

Better yet, use the Torx drivers once, and replace the grip screws with slotted head screws. Hex-head or Torx-head screws look pretty, but they're pretty impractical.

One of the little known, and less appreciated features of the 1911A1 (and the original commercial Government Model) is that they can be detail stripped using only one "tool" that can be a twig, pen, a rifle round (like 06 fmj) or anything with a small enough point to depress the firing pin. All the other "tools" needed are the parts of the gun.

Allen head or torx head screws defeat this.

They my look nice, but personally, I would replace them with the standard slot head screws, for convenience.

Your choice, of course.
