colt 1911 clips?

How do I get those colt clips to pop out like the one chip mccormic clip that I have? A couple of them pop out about a half inch some don't pop out at all?

How do they fit the well? If they are tight in only a few spots clean them up w/ a little fine sandpaper so they'll drop free easier. Probably less mag spring tension in the colts to push them that first little bit when empty. The easiest fix is to trash all of the above and buy lots of wilson mags.

By pop out, do you meanyou want your magazine to fall on the floor when you release it? If you do, don't get mad if they start failing later. I prefer to grab my mags and strip them out so just hanging down a little is fine by me.

Besides possible/probable friction between the mag and frame, maybe a stronger mag spring will help. What causes the mags to pop out is the pressure applied by the slide stop notch on the follower to the slide stop lever. To see if this is true, swap out the mag spring from your Chip mag and put it in a Colt mag. See if it pops out. If it does and you like it that way, buy stronger springs for your mags.

Wilson Conversion kits

An economical way to great magazines is to buy Wilson conversion kits for $8 each and install them in your Colt mags. You can get them from Brownells or direct from Wilson. I've done seven mags this way. They are all much more reliable now.

Regards.

Hi, guys,

The 1911 was designed as a combat gun and empty mags should fall free when the release is pushed (sorry, Preserve Freedom). In a real nasty situation, the off hand should be reaching for a loaded mag, not trying to pull the empty one out of the gun.

For those who buy super expensive mags, there are floor plate pads to protect the investment. For those of us who buy cheap GI mags, it doesn't matter. And one can always catch the mag in a non-critical situation.

The proper name for them is "magazine". It just makes you look like an amature calling them "clips".

Clips, as in stripper clips are used to load rifle magazines and a handful of internal pistol magazines.
