coloring in engraving?

Didn't know where to put this as it could pertain to any engraved firearm so I thought I'd try it hear.

So I got my new Ruger LCP Talo (electroless nickel slide, engraved with Ruger logo) and was thinking it'd look really cool if I could highlight the engraving in black. Would anything darken the lines while staying that way.......as it gonna be a working/carry gun. If not it's no big deal, just think it'd look different.

(not my pics but mine's just like this, pulled these off the internet as my camera won't focus close enough to see the lines)

I've seen people use crayons/wax to fill engraving. Don't know how well it would hold up to EDC though. Brownells sells something for filling engraving, called Lacquer-Stik. I know it came in gold and silver, not sure about black.

I have used the lacquer sticks on collectables in the past. The engraving on this pistol doesn't look deep enough to hold the material for very long. Repeated cleaning will likely remove it over time.

I'd say if you were to put it under glass it would be fine.

Yeah it's not very deep at all. I've used the lacquer sticks on a couple of my HK's before but the rollmarks on them were ALOT deeper than this LCP. They wouldn't hold up very well to daily carry.

That gold would be too much IMO. I normally don't like "flashy" carry guns but this one asked my to please take it home from the mean ol' gun shop. :)

A quick method is to go over the engraving with a Magic Marker. Then, take a paper towel and give it a light squirt of WD 40-just barely dampen it. Use this to wipe the marker off the slide. It holds up Ok, but is easily repeatable.
Note: the slide should be clean of oil (especially in the engraving) before appling the marker.
Most cleaning solvents will remove it.
