Is anyone here familiar with this company or more specifically the derringers? GF was interested in the interchangeable barrel model. Had to tell her to hold off til I checked with TFL:D

I have a Davis derringer. Stiff trigger pull, will need many hours at the range to gain any sort of proficiency and will be hard on the hands and is a belly gun. Why does she want a derringer? Cute? I would say if she MUST have a derringer buy a Bond Arms.

Out at a dinner party and she couldn't fit her Beretta .25 in her clutch purse comfortably. She saw this Cobra at the LGS and she likes that it comes with interchangeable barrels with .22lr, .22 mag, .25, and .32. If it's any good it sounds worth the price of $200. Haven't really looked at any other derringers yet as this was just this past weekend.

Derringers all have one problem,,,

And the Davis is no different in that,,,
They have a trigger pull that is off the chart,,,
And cocking the hammer on one is also a huge chore.

Not trying to be smarmy here,,,
But unless she simply wants the derringer
And truthfully, that's as good a reason as any to get one,,,
You might consider the option of buying her a slightly larger clutch purse. ;)

Seriously though,,,
Have her try cocking and dry firing the derringer.

She might change her mind,,,
But if not she's made an informed choice.

Ha! I'm either going to hate myself for adding ANOTHER purse to the house or I'm going to get the argument that "THIS particular purse goes with EVERYTHING and I couldn't POSSIBLY find something else." Or now I have to buy a new dress for the new purse! Nah, I trust her when it comes to her weapons. If she says she likes it, it is because she has already had it in her hands and gone over the controls. LGS owner said he hasn't had any returns on them, but that's not exactly a glowing endorsement either. Never heard of the company so I was just curious if anybody had. Btw, she's a smart chick..she's with ME! :D

I had a Cobra .22lr derringer for a little while. Mainly got it as a cheap range toy, and in that role it was just fine. Seemed quite durable, and naturally never malfunctioned either.

However, it would make for a very poor self-defense weapon. Trigger pull is awful, and the gun is slow to shoot, slow to reload, and is VERY inaccurate (but maybe accuracy isn't intended for a gun of this design). What's more, the gun's small size is kind of deceptive, it's actually thicker than many pocket autos and also heavier than many pocket autos, too.

May seem like a good option for ultimate conceal-ability, but I've found that it's thicker and heavier than my Kel-Tec P32, but the latter gave me 8 rounds of a more potent cartridge that could be fired far more accurately and rapidly. Simply no contest as to which the superior defensive weapon.

I'd sooner pick one of those NAA mini-revolvers than a derringer, at least the NAA has a better trigger and 5-round capacity (it's also much smaller, lighter, than a Cobra derringer). Not that I think the NAA mini is a great choice, but it's almost certainly better. Some of them do come with interchangeable cylinders, I think, so you can shoot either .22lr or .22 mag.

I feel your pain,,,

Or now I have to buy a new dress for the new purse!

I once had a wife who was given a very nice western saddle,,,
Then she wanted to buy another horse to go with it,,,
The saddle was brown, her horses were gray.

Women,,,
Can't live with 'em,,,
Can't stuff 'em in a sack.

But does it fit in your purse better than the Kel-Tec?:D Couldn't resist. I have heard of NAA so I'll have to check those out. At least it's another option. Thanks.

It's really a poor choice for defensive uses, and a defensive gun shouldn't be chosen on the basis of emotion only.

Raftman, I'm almost soiled myself!:D DPris, not sure what emotion we are talking about. Ultimately, she doesn't want to be unarmed based on her style of clothing.

I believe that derringers are more awkward than the NAA Minis with even less shots available. A Kel Tec P32 might do the trick. It is smaller than the Beretta 25. I've had/have both.

The NAA & the P32 are about as small as they come without going the derringer route.

The emotion I refer to is selecting a defensive tool solely on the basis of "I like it", to the exclusion of reality.

Nah, I trust her when it comes to her weapons. If she says she likes it, it is because she has already had it in her hands and gone over the controls.
If I buy something after holding it in my hands, manipulating it, and finding out about it, I'm not sure that qualifies as emotion other than I like the way it feels, or I like the controls. Same goes for her. She didn't walk past the case and say she wanted it cuz it made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside.;)

I often carry a NAA Pug as a bug or to the gym. I have had 2 Cobra 38 derringers and no longer have either. I do own a American derringer in 45 acp that is a real bear to shoot.
NAA makes a fine little gun and I like the 22magnum round. It is much easier to shoot and is a lot more accurate than a derringer too. And I think it is just as cute. ;)

LGS owner said he hasn't had any returns on them, but that's not exactly a glowing endorsement either.

You dealer must be special mine got 6 of these junkers 4 wouldn't fire at all.

Have her get a KelTec in 32 or a NAA in 22LR the mag way to much recoil.
Leave the derringer in the store.

Mine carries the KT-32 and never in a purse . To slow to get at. also can be stolen.

The only 2 derringers I would consider are the North American and Bond. They are both quality firearms that are, in my opinion, almost good for nothing. I have a .357 North American and the hammer can easily catch on clothing, it's heavy, and you have to cock it for each shot. It is hard to cock too, I cannot do it with one hand and I'm pretty strong. I would rather have her .25 any day than a derringer. if she wants another gun, convince her that the idea of a switch barrel in a gun of this type is silly. I'm thinking the LCP would be perfect for purposes.

He also never said if he sold any either:D. She has to carry the purse as her little black dress has no pockets. Purse is 4" deep x 6" long, very slim. Credit card, lipstick, ID. Her Beretta Jetfire, Taurus TCP don't fit. Gonna check out the NAA .22 Mag. this week.

The NAA Minis will always get my vote. I don't hesitate to carry mine. While rimfire is not the best for defense, it beats carrying nothing at all.

The Bond Arms guns are nice, but they are too big and heavy for just being a two shot derringer. They weigh as much and sometimes more than my Walther PPS 9mm which holds 7 rounds.
