Coated or Stainless Rod ???

I'm going to order a Dewey rod on Monday. I already have a Stoney Point Rod Guide to go with it.

I'm wondering which is the better rod--the coated or the stainless? Does the coating stay on?

It stays on unless you impact the rod with a rough surface, like dropping it onto a junkpile. I like coated rods, but a good argument can be made either way pro or con. Frequent wiping clean makes it a non-issue, IMHO. Every stroke is not too often...:D

I started with a stainless rod and then eventually went with the coated rod and glad I did. The reason I did this is because after awhile, you will get reverse rifling marks on your rod. Thats all I needed to see to switch. Like stated above, wiping frequently should take care of the bad side of coated rods(imbedded material in the coating).
Oh yeah, don't worry about the coating coming off, thats not even an issue.

I agree with all the reponders. A coated Dewey is top drawer and the way to go. I've never liked the idea of a cleaning rod being as hard or maybe harder than the barrel it is supposed to help clean.
