Coated Bullet Info Needed

I use a lot of coated bullets, mostly from Missouri Bullet Co. with the Hi-Tek coating. What is this grooveless bullet you speak of?

I think he's asking us. I've never seen one. However, if someone took a swaged Hornady bullet and powder coated it at home, that's how it would look.

Sources for moly black coated bullets are available on line. The manufacturer is Bear Creek Supply located at Waterford, Ca. I use some of their rifle bullets extensively, but have never used handgun. From their bullet chart they do have .45 230 gr RN, and I believe both with and without a crimping groove. Bear Creek does not have a web site so ordering direct must be done by phone, 208-874-4322. I have a local source so have not had to place a phone order. Those who have say that phone ordering is no problem.

I'd forgotten MO Bullets had those. I've never tried them. If you look on page 9 of their list you find a 38 SWC with a crimp groove but no lube grooves. That's a good form for revolvers.

I'm reminded the H&N Hi Speed bullets are grooveless coated bullets, as well, but the coating is thicker than the PC's are.

Sawdust, does the coating reduce leading like they say?

zero leading with the coated bullets. At the velocities I shoot them anyway. Generally under 1200fps.

I wouldn't call those MO bullets grooveless since they have a "lube" groove.

Black Bullets International has gone to grooveless 230 gr RN bullets for coating. They feed, fire, function, and shoot as well as grooved.
Their nose shape is a tiny bit different but it does not affect feeding even in my most finicky auto.

Look through the pages of their catalog again. You'll see some of their coated bullets are cast from molds with lube grooves and some from molds without any grooves (neither lube nor crimp grooves) and some that have only the crimp groove but no lube grooves. See, tops of pages 2 & 3, the third down Mauser bullet on page 4 that has a crimp groove only, the third down 9mm bullet on page 5, etc.
