I am getting ready to buy a good NV weapon sight. 3rd + starlight or FLIR seems to be my best choices, but of course, FLIR is much more expensive. Both types that I have examined so far come with internal magnifications: 1 to 6 x power for 3rd gen starlight or up to 9 x for thermal. And, I can get either type that attaches to the front of my optics which do not have any magnification but rely on my existing optic for zoom. My existing optics would magnify the images provided by the NV. However, as best that I can tell, unless either type can produce crystal clear images, high magnification will just magnify the distortions. ATN makes a FLIR co-witness that has 800x600 px but putting this in front of a 12 x scope, I don't believe that I would get a clear image. Perhaps I am incorrect? Any suggestions?
