(CO) Police are OK with civilian employee pushing out-of-state gun permits

Good to read, but I just hope this doesn't cheapen the Florida permits to the point of being useless. Mebbe this is "stealth" national CCW.

Typical media bias again - "pushing", as in drugs.

Police are OK with civilian employee pushing out-of-state gun permits

By Carla Crowder

A Wheat Ridge gun dealer's project to encourage Coloradans to sign up for out-of-state concealed weapons' permits has passed muster with his police employer.

The Aurora Police Department was concerned about firearms instructor Rich Wyatt's activities as owner of Gun Smoke. Wyatt keeps stacks of Florida permit applications in the store, and hands them out to people who are not allowed to carry hidden guns in Colorado.

Florida law allows residents of other states to obtain Florida permits, which are good in 14 other states, including Wyoming and Utah. But not Colorado.

"Our research into the practice shows that it does not violate Colorado state or federal law," said Aurora police spokesman Mark Hellenschmidt.

Wyatt is a civilian police employee on leave from his post. Neither Wyatt nor Hellenschmidt would reveal the reasons for the leave, but said it has nothing to do with the permit issue. Wyatt remains miffed at his employer for even questioning his activities.

He said earlier this week that Aurora has no jurisdiction because his store is in Wheat Ridge.

I could be wrong, but the Florida carry license is for visitors to Florida. It was never intended to be used by non-Florida residents as a way to get around their own state restrictions.

So many pistols, so little money.

I think that the intent of the Florida law is so that honest citizens can legally have available the means to defend themselves. That is what is ocurring here. :)

Several states issue to non-residents & I'd think that ellsworth- is on the money.

A search through the NRA/ILA info sites provides some pretty good info as to what the states/requirements are & where & what you get for how much, etc.

Actually a pretty good idea if you're going to be doing any travelling by car.

CO is such a hodge-podge of counties that do issue (but any CCW is good for enture state) vs those that don't. And as posted above - nobody elses is good in CO.

& BTW, Crowder's a :(

I have to readress this:

"A Wheat Ridge gun dealer's project to encourage Coloradans to sign up for out-of-state concealed weapons' permits has passed muster with his police employer."

"Passed muster?!" Bite me, damned Nazi! What the hell is this yahoo doing sniffing up people's butts?

&

""Our research into the practice shows that it does not violate Colorado state or federal law," said Aurora police spokesman Mark Hellenschmidt."

F-ing A it doesn't & his "research" probably cost us citizens $1/4 million which could just as easily have been accomplished by dialing into about 50 different sites that deal with the subject.

What the hell is this puke (OK, he's not a puke - just the spokesman for pukes)doing "research" into other states' laws anyway? What the hell does he care what other states' laws are?
