They will either get sued because some idiot shoots himself despite the lock, or, because someone got killed as he fumbled with the lock and the goblin was quicker. Then we have the company with it's "deep pockets".

Larimer sheriff recalls defective locks for guns

Other departments in Colorado decide not to give away devices until they have more data

A defect in a gun safety lock given out by more than 300 law enforcement agencies across the country has led to a recall by one Colorado sheriff's office and a disruption of the program by others.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Office launched a recall Tuesday of the nearly 5,000 locks it has distributed to citizens since June.
Several other departments, including those in Denver, Arapahoe County and Colorado Springs, decided not to give away any more locks until they receive more information.

The recall was prompted by a discovery made last week in Knoxville, Tenn. An officer there was bouncing one of the locks in his hand when it sprung open. His department immediately began testing 3,000 locks it planned to distribute and determined the problem was common.

More than 400,000 of the locks have been distributed to law enforcement agencies spanning 47 states. They were given out as part of Project HomeSafe, a Newton, Conn.-based program launched about a year ago by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. The trade group has spent about $2 million on the program.

Project HomeSafe has postponed distribution. The foundation sent notices to departments that had received locks and pledged to conduct extensive tests to determine whether a widespread recall is appropriate.

Each department has been asked to send the foundation five locks for testing.
Some Colorado agencies, including the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, have said they will wait for further information before taking any action.

"Until we hear from the manufacturer that there is a safety problem, we're going to continue to provide the locks to anyone who asks for them," Sgt. Attila Denes said Wednesday.

But Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden said in a statement he is concerned lock owners might have "a false sense of security."
Larimer County is asking citizens to bring locks to headquarters at 200 W. Oak St. in Fort Collins or to a deputy.

A Larimer County deputy tested more than 20 locks from several batches before Alderden made the recall decision, said sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Gordon. Every one of them popped open when a deputy struck the lock as instructed by officers in Tennessee. The action didn't require any significant force, Gordon said.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office tested five locks in its stock and found a problem with two of them, said Undersheriff Grayson Robinson.

I especially like the lock that they showed on TV last week. When you pulled on the lock, IT pulled the trigger! LOL!
