CMP... Kimber Model 82; Good Deal?

At the urging of my fellow shooters in the local CMP club, I'm ordering one of the old Model 82 Kimbers... made in '88 or '89, --I think-- for the US gummint.

I ran a quick search on this forum, and comments seem very favorable. Does $600 sound like a good price for this gun? Comes with aperature rear sight, which I've had fun shooting with on friend's rifles; seems more fun than scopes for some reason.

Opinions?

I shot one of these in a local smallbore league last year. Its a nice rifle. Considering that an Anshutz will cost you twice as much, at least, its an OK deal. If you are looking for an Anshutz you'll be dissapointed. The trigger is a fairly heavy single stage and its strictly a single shot (i.e. no magazine). The sights are decent. Personally, for $600, I'd save my money and buy an Anshutz.

I had a commercial Kimber model 82 of '86 vintage. I cannot speak for the condition of the US Government models, but my ol' 82 was a "no excuses" rifle. It hit whatever I was aiming at out to any distance I ever attempted to hit something. My friends and I used take turns shooting golf balls at 100 yards offhand (no exaggeration). I let it go a couple of years ago in trade for a Colt Gold Cup, traded for a SIG 220, traded for a HK USP...
I wish I still had any of those guns, but I really, really wish I could get that Kimber back. $600 sounds reasonable, from where I stand. I saw a commercial model recently like my old one, paired with a Leupold 3-9x, for $795. I like the idea of the US guns, though. Anything with military provenance is interesting, especially something as unusual as a Kimber. Hope this helps!
