CMMG 16" AR Question

I visited my LGS yesterday looking for a used 12ga (which I found:D) when I noticed all of the pretty ARs that my dealer had gotten in since the last time I was there.

I had to handle some and he had some great (as far as I'm concerned) prices. However, of all the rifles that were in my price range, none of them were actual milspec lowers. They didn't have a foward assist or dust cover (think DPMS sportical and M&P Sport) and I was dissapointed.

Then he pulled out a CMMG 16" M4 style that was tagged at 860 and he said he would do it for 750.

I don't know a lot about CMMG, but from what I gather their stuff is quite a bit better quality than DPMS or Olympic. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong.

Am I crazy or does that seem like an incredible deal?

CMMG is ok, but DPMS is ok too. Too any people get wrapped around the axle about what the name is on the lower reciever and don't look at what else goes into the gun.

I recently purchased a CMMG Sierra .22lr upper for my S&W M&P15T and so far it's been top notch. Not a single complaint.

CMMG is good to go. I've got some CMMG gear and they're all great.

I put CMMG at the same level as S&W, Stag, and the like. A step up from the usual commercial tier rifles.

I have a CMMG M4 style carbine and it is excellent. Great build quality, accuracy and smooth operation. Mine is an LE model which has the WASP treated barrel (bore). This is a nitriding process that many consider to be superior to chrome lining (Sig uses this process for the 556).

My guess is that, at 750, the weapon you are looking at may be a nitrided barrel, too (LE or LEP model). You can read about it here: http://www.cmmginc.com/pdfs/WASPTechSheet.pdf
Personally, I bought this rifle for the barrel treatment as much as the rest of the overall quality, You could spend more, but I don't think you get more. However, some people are hung up on chrome lined barrels and may not like the idea of nitriding.

I'd say an unqualified, "buy it!" Hope this helps.

CMMG is very good ,if you have a chance to get one with their WASP coated barrels grab it . I just got one of their .308 custom AR's in dark earth and it is perfect in every way ,sub moa with match ammo and 2 moa with surplus ammo . Flawless function right out of the box .

My AR is a LaRue upper sitting on a CMMG lower. I can't really tell you about accuracy or anything, but I'd say that after a grand total of 4 malfunctions (all ammo-related) in about 8,000 rounds, the reliability is there. Yeah, it doesn't say 'Colt' or 'Noveske' or anything, but it will definitely do the job. Hope this helps.

CMMG is good but...

What's wrong with DPMS Sportical or M&P Sport? Sure they don't have forward assist or dust cover but those are not deal breakers as the rifle functions fine without those parts.

Just curious, what will you use this rifle for?
