CLP on stock finish

Noticed that after I sprayed some clp on my remington 190
action, somehow some ran or sprayed over on the stock.

The damage appears to be about 6 to 8 sploches.

Is there a way to clean this up or do I need to completely refinish the stock?

One thing for sure, I'll never use the spray clp around anything that has finish! I had even read the "distructions" and never thought how much this stuff can splatter!

I don't remember that gun and the kind of finish it came with, but did the spray cleaner bubble the finish or just clean years of grime off of the spots it touched?
 
I have used CLP for over 20 years and have never seen it damage any kind finish, however I don't know what type of finish your wood had. The solution is to stop using aerosal products that go eveywhere and waste the product and start using something from a bottle and apply with a rag or a small brush so you can control where it goes. I use CLP with a small brush and it works very well.

Insect repellant (OFF) is hard on finishes too.

I went and looked and the stuff that caused the damage was not CLP, but a product called Break Free Power Blast, gun cleaner, a Remington by-product.
So, went on internet and found several sites that told me how
to "refinish the finish".

Someguy came over to my house with a Trapdoor Springfield and black powder 45/70.

We shot it, and then he wanted to clean it.

So gave him some Simple Green and water. This is a detergent like Seinfeld calling Prell the rocket fuel of shampoo.

We cleaned the black powder out of his bore, but it took the oil finish off his stock.

He asked for some motor oil, rubbed that on his stock, and it seemed back to normal.
 
Motor oil is not like linseed oil for stock finishes. The boiled liseed oil will dry and become some what hard. The motor oil stuff will never dry. The BLO is the only to oil finish a stock, takes some time but the finish cannot be compared to anything else.
