Clinton Lashes Out at Gun Lobby

By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

NEW YORK (AP) -- President Clinton on Sunday renewed his verbal spat with the National Rifle Association, accusing the gun lobbying group of trying to scare voters into supporting Republican candidates with ``a lie'' about the handgun restrictions he shepherded into law.

At a campaign rally for his wife at Hofstra University, the president said the GOP is hoping to repeal many of his anti-crime proposals, including the 1993 Brady handgun law, which instituted background checks for gun purchases, and programs that put more police officers on street patrols.

Clinton said he had heard the NRA was asking its supporters to take a day off work to campaign against Democratic candidates, mainly by spreading the allegation that the Brady law robs legitimate gun owners of their ability to obtain weapons quickly.

``It's a lie,'' Clinton said. He challenged sport shooters and hunters to ``vote for the other guy,'' referring to GOP presidential nominee George W. Bush, if they have ``missed a day'' of indulging in their pastime because of handgun restrictions.

``If you didn't, they're lying to you, and you should get even,'' Clinton said. ``They're wrong, we're right, you've got to fight.''

The president was in New York state all day Sunday helping raise money for first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton's Senate

That's okay Willie. You keep right on saying that stuff.

As a lame-duck prez, he can afford to say things like this. Too bad that his veep can't.

Yup. Too bad. And it just drives the wedge in deeper. Cool.

He's not called The Liar in Chief for nothing ;)
I sure hope he's feeling real good for all those laid off S&W employees  That's a lot to be proud of
I sure can't wait until he is out of there :)

He supposidly flew into Ft Drum on Sunday while my unit was training there; we never saw any evidence of it. We didn't have any live rounds either (darn).
All of you who've been forced to shoot a 10 round magazine or been denied a reasonably priced AR have all been inconvenienced and will vote appropriately, I am sure.

Sounds to me like he is getting shrill. Gee, I wonder if he has read the tea leaves and determined it is over. Hey, after the best president in American history the democrats lose the election and potentially get sent into political exile, you gotta blame someone. I don't see Bill taking responsibility for the democrats demise, so he has to blame someone. Hey, how 'bout the NRA. They are a real boogie man, they are effective, and everyone has heard that guns are bad.

If the American public cleans house in November, you can be the democrats will demonize many institutions including pro-2's, the NRA, big oil, and non-environmentalists. The blame game has just started.

I hope he continues to bash the NRA. Go ahead and anger gun owners even more. Yes, we do vote and it will be for Bush.

This, to me, is classic Clinton, ranting about his enemies, that is, about loyal and patriotic Americans who happen to see things differently from him. His tirades have IMO led to much of the polarization of issues that the country has endured for the last eight years, have divided us from ourselves, and have contributed to the hysterical overreaction of the government and the media to current events. My $0.02.

Clinton has been a "lame duck" President ever since he was impeached by the House. No one can forget his finger shaking lie on national TV. I doubt even his closest friends trust him. So who will pay attention to the least trustworthy President in history?

Fortunately, the majority of the voters will ignore Clinton's gun rhetoric, and with a little luck, Clinton may influence voters to vote for GWBush.

I have been inconvenienced a lot. I have been forced to pay hard-earned money to "buy" my 2nd Amendment rights. I have had to "buy" the right to possess an AR-15. I have had to send money to various gun rights organizations to protects my 2nd Amendment rights. Etc, etc.

This is just another lie coming from Klinton.

Vote for G. W. Bush.
Or give give up ALL your gun rights.

Do you ever notice that it is the media who keeps driving the wedge between groups. I.e., one religion vs another, blacks vs whites, poor vs rich, women vs men, gays vs non gays, gun owners vs gun haters and the list goes on and on.

Instead of helping out by sending money to places like the salvation army, we have to dedicate more money to the NRA and other groups to help save the 2nd amendment to the "Bill of rights" even when you "served" your country with military service.

The liberals are certainly not helping those they profess to help. They are diverting funds from various programs to destroy a right that WAS constitutionally guaranteed.

It appears they keep us right where they want us. Watching the birdie.

Gee, thanks Bill. I'll think about it if you can convince my wife that getting some oral sex from another woman isn't "sex" or cheating"

Let me know how you make out.

O.K. Billy-boy, I'll believe whatever you say...

And now we have Al Gore, who can't tell the difference..."
