CLINTON AID: ALL-STAR CONCERT CONSIDERED TO HELP PAY OFF LEGAL BILLS
President Clinton's legal defense fund has raised a total of $6.3 million
in 18 months, falling short of the $10.5 million the Clintons' owe in legal
bills.
And in the last 45 days, the fund only took in a total of $200,000.
It now appears likely that the Clinton Legal Expense Trust will not be able
to pay off the entire debt before the president leaves office.
Unless.
In recent weeks the Trust's directors have been searching for creative ways
to raise cash.
One option under active consideration: CLINTON AID!
Close friends of the president now believe that an all-star concert, with
headliners like Barbra Streisand and Don Henley, could be a way to raise
millions.
Trust fund rules prohibit the president and first lady from directly
participating, but power donor David Geffen reportedly likes the idea of
throwing a fund-raising concert.
"I think we would get major support throughout the music community... it
could really become quite an event," said one Clinton insider.
Names like Madonna, Tony Bennett, Lou Reed and Cher have been mentioned as
other possible performers for CLINTON AID.
"I just think this is an incredibly unfortunate situation for the president
and for this country," Geffen told the NEW YORK TIMES last year. "There is
a well-financed group of zealots who want to bring down the president. And
this guy has no money. He's broke. This is a terrible situation."
