Some time ago Goex made a black powder substitute called "clear shot" that I had good results with, now they don't make it anymore. Does anyone know of any sitting on a shelf anywhere or have any to sell? My local dealer said his suppler still has some but he has to place a 25lb combined order & this will be a while. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks NRA PATRON LIFE MEMBER

I have heard that Clear Shot does not have a great shelf life.
It may be that you don't want a 5 year old jug of this stuff.

I too used this a few years back and you are right in saying that it was pretty good stuff. However, I would not pay a premium for it as the shelf life is certainly a consideration. It came in one pound "Metal" containers and that would be prefered over the plastic. If the price was right, I'd go for it but certainly not for 25LBs.

Oly, Clear shot was made by Goex while A.P.is made by American Pioneer Powder Inc. out of Whitewater, Co., I believe. Having shot A.P., Clear Shot and Clean Shot, I`ve never been able to see any big advantage for one over the other. IMO, all good powders. As far as cleanliness they all are better than Pyrodex(again MO). As far as shelf-life goes, I`ve bought powder in quantity before but always split it with fellow shooters. Also when buying I`ll always try to but the freshest I can as the store I purchase from dates there powder. They always have a big sale on bp after bp deer season. I usually load up then cause we`ll shoot all summer. Trader vic, as Pahoo referred to, the shelf life would be some concern. Considering the current age of the powder, the way it was stored and the length of time it will take you to shoot up 25lb. would be of concern for me.

Actually American Pioneer was started by the guy who use to make Black-Mag. Talk to some powder guys and they will give you the torid history and all the falling outs.

I have a one pound can that I used just a 140 grains out of the pound. I tried it in a cartridge gun and didnt care for it. I would be glad to sell it to you at a reasonable rate but Im afraid the freight charges would be too high. Let me know.
