Clear Coats?

Are there any clear coats out there to avoid blueing. Was just curious if there was anything that could finish a chrome moly barrel besides blueing or parkerizing, to keep its original shine.

You can just keep it oiled or wax it. The metal will eventually develop a patina, but will remain shiny for a long time if properly cared for. This was a common practice with firearms during the 1800s, before bluing became de rigeur.

Bluing is a protective conversion of the surface molecules of the metal, and keeps the surface of the metal from rusting easily.

You mean a real clear coat so the naked gray steel shows?

Brownells has Baking Lacquer, Aluma-Hyde II, and Metal Coat Epoxy in clear as well as colors.

clear coat

Both duracoat and cerakote offer clears in semi gloss

both are much better than hte typical clear coat bought at your local home store.

I much prefer cerakote

cerakote

both ceracoat and duracoat are spray applied.

cerakote is easily the hardest of all mentioned to date

two part mix sprayed by air brush then it has to be heated to harden.

duracoat is 2 part that is air dried... hardens over time.
