Clear coating stocks

I recently purchased a Fajen black laminated stock & was wondering if anyone had any good ways of protecting the stock. Can I use a good paste wax, poly wood coatings or just leave it as is? Thanks in advanc for any advice or info.
 
I just refinished some walnut handgun grips yesterday. For a final finish I used Carnauba wax from Brownells. I think the 2 oz. tin was $9. Worked great, looks fantastic. Should be easy to reapply when needed.
