Cleaning

I have a Ruger SP-101 Revolver and I was wondering if another cloth material (T-Shirt?) can be used for cleaning purposes along with the cleaning fluid or are the patches the best bet? I ask because if I drive to pick them up it's a good thirty mile trek.....

Any input greatly appreciated!

I suppose you could cut up an old t-shirt and make some patches, but you're going to need some cleaning patches sooner or later.

They're relatively cheap to buy, so make it worth your while and buy enough to last you for a few years.

Or, you could go on-line and just order some. E-Bay has some good prices on them.

Many thanks! What are your thoughts on the Ultrasonic Cleaners from Lyman, Hornady, etc?

FWIW, I use patches made from old linen dishcloths. Linen doesn't shred and leave fluff or strings that stay next to the metal and attract moisture that cause rust.

I use my old t shirt and old socks work well too. Then once Im done cleaning I wipe mine down with a micro fiber cloth just before I put it into the safe to get any hand oils off... There is no need for patches.

Why trek anywhere to get cleaning supplies? Plenty of on line sources. Midway, Amazon, Brownells, etc.

In the meantime cut up T-shirts work fine. So do old dish towels.
