I know everyone says I should use a one peice cleaning rod but is one of those "Bore Snakes" a good option?

A bore snake would be a perfectly good option to clean that barrel. If you are in a big hurry to ruin an accurate barrel.

Best thing to do is get a quality 1 piece coated cleaning rod, a proper jag tip for that rod, and the best bore guide you can find. The MTM unit is not included in the list of quality guides.

Go over to www.benchrest.com, and look at their vendors of cleaning supplies... www.sinclairintl.com is also good...

I'd use the following

Lucas or Sinclair bore guide (MUST HAVE)
Bill Gammon's stock cover
Either Dewey or Pro-Shot rod(s) (I use two)
Benchrest-quality bronze brushes
Sinclair's or Butch's patches (very nice)
Butch's Bore Shine for solvent

I'm a bit confused. Why do the Boresnakes get the thumbs down? They seem to be a quality item.
-I'm not trying to be a smart@ss, but my salesman is pushing the things in a big way. He says they are the best thing since the wheel.

Let me second what Bogie posted. I use exactly the same tools, with the exception of the stock cover. And I bought them from exactly the same source. Want to know the right way to clean a rifle ? Ask someone who puts his skills on the line in formal competition. Benchrest being the premier sport of that relm.

I be confused on this one too. I've had a VS for quite a while and it sees only a one piece rod made of steel and a proper guide. I would like to know how a piece of cloth with not enough bore bristles is going to ruin a barrel? I have thought about getting one for my 10/22 so I don't have to remove the barrel every time I clean it (I don't like cleaning from the muzzle, but don't have much choice on my 94 levergun). Anybody out there with experience on this?
