Cleaning suggestion, 91/30

I was cleaning my rifle this morning and found a spot that I have been missing and I'm a little concerned. Since I shoot surplus Soviet bloc ammo I'm nearly obsessively focused on the threat of corrosive ammo. So far, I have not noticed any adverse effects so I've been pretty confident in my cleaning routine.

Until this morning.

The area that I'm having trouble with is very end of the barrel that seats in the receiver. I don't have a brush that fits the space nor do my fat finger have enough room and leverage to give it the scrub it needs.

Any suggestions on tools or techniques for this problem area?

Hello Coyote WT. Are you refering to the milled out areas for the bolts locking bolts?..Top & bottom areas of reciever? Sinclair/Brownells sells a bolt-recess cleaning kit.

Sad to say I'm not 100% confident on nomenclature. It is the part of the barrel that fits into the hex (in my case) receiver. It is the polar opposite of exit end of the barrel.

You need a bolt lug recess cleaning tool. Midway sells a plastic one that uses the cotton dental rolls(the little cotton tubelike things the dentist uses to hold your gum away from a tooth he's working on). I use them once a year on most of my rifles.

To clean the lug recess area, I have found that a 12 ga plastic brush works well. I also use a 20 ga. brush to clean the chamber area.

Thanks for the pointers. I have a couple shot gun brushes in my cleaning kit and used one today. I'm happy to learn I'm on the right track.
