how often / after how many rounds do you guys clean your guns
in the army we cleaned our c6 or c7 after every shooting exercise then again the next day.
currently i have a fabarm's pro forces 12 ga. 14 " barrel.
should i clean after every time i go to range ( average about 30 rounds )
in a day at range
or wait and clean it say every second day at range ?

thanks in advance :D

That and i enjoy cleaning my guns after a range session. It's like a quality control check after each use. In the marine corps down time is cleaning your weapon.

I read on another post about a product called Breakfree CLP. Anybody use that? PPCLI, the 2-stage cleaning you did in the Army sounds a lot like the instructions on the can. Did you use CLP?

Also, to what extend do you clean your shotgun? How much do you break it down?

I shoot 870s. The ones that get shot on a weekly basis get a bore scrub and wipedown every time. Yearly, after wet conditions or when needed, a complete disassembly and deep cleaning is done.

My oldest 870 was made in 1950. I've owned it since 1959 or so. it has been in salt marshes, goose blinds, rainstorms and been held in very sweaty hands on the rnage. Zero rust.

CLP is good stuff. So is SLIP 2000, Mobil synthetic 10W30, Remoil, etc. But the most important cleaning material is elbow grease.

I like the time to clean the guns as I can check for anything unusual and hopefully prevent any trouble.
Also, if you clean after every shoot, the cleaning is easier.
On my 870's & 1100's I pull the barrel, forearm, bolt assy and mag spring every time and clean the mag tube with a couple patches, doubled-up and lightly hit with CLP on a jag. I clean the barrel with a borebrush, jag w/patches and CLP. When I am done, I run a snake through the barrel and wipe the entire gun down with the CLP. Lube the rails a wee bit with SLP2000 and that's it.

I also pull the trigger group every third time out for a cleaning and inspection. I normally do not disassemble any further than that unless I'm fiddling about with lifters or springs or the like.

One more thing. I have not been shooting slugs for some time and my barrels are easy to clean. As I recall, slug shooting requires quite a bit more elbow grease and something a little stronger than CLP to clean.

i find the fumes are rather pleasnt:D ido a complete break down. on my gold its really simple to takedown. i usually take my time and it takes less than 30 mins.

i clean mine w/ kerosene and oil the moving parts with 5w-20 synthetic motor oil.

Call me crazy, works amazingly well and i have a life time supply of cleaner and oil for under $10

the stuff we used was in a od green can and said property of dnd canada on it :D

it was pretty much the same as clp and the like but more of a wd 40 smell
