Cleaning Rod?

What's the best universal cleaning rod out there for cleaning everything from a .22 rifle up to a .50 cal muzzle loader including for now a .270 and a 12ga :)

For me the word universal doesn't fit, a .22 caliber rod will flex a good deal in larger calibers. I have two Dewey one piece rods and like them.

I have a Dewey .17 that I used for my CZ 452 (really tight bore).

Now with my 10/22 I am thinking about getting an OTIS kit. And it does most all caliber and is about the size of a hockey puck.

For my shotgun I have a bore snake.

Agree with Edward. You will need several cleaning rods to cover that wide of a range. Buy good cleaning rods. Buy one for 22-30 caliber, one for 32-40 caliber, and another for the big stuff. They need to be one piece, smooth, have industry-standard female threads for attaching jags and brushes, and have a good handle. Smooth metal, coated, or even graphite reinforced resin is good, that way they are easy to wipe off and won't scratch the bore of the rifle.

That said, there is no need for precision ball bearing swivel stainless steel iridium plated laser aligned diamond honed indestructible non-petrochemical polymer handle ground thread cleaning rods. I think some people confuse the fact that a cleaning rod is basically just a handle for the bore brush.

If the only big gun (over .30) you have is the muzzleloader, then yes one rod will do just fine. That is because you don't need a separate rod for your muzzleloader. Just buy the right threaded tips that fit on your regular muzzloader rod (I'm thinking that most are 10/32 size).
