cleaning a rifle

Hi everybody I'm new here
Here is my question I had an older 300 salvage,lever action under my bed and our cats (unknown to me) were peeing under the bed. I looked at the rifle yestarday and the cat pee rusted the side of the rifle pretty bad around the side of where lever is. My question is how I can clean the rust and cat pee off the rifle.

not sure, but I know where to get the patches

Might leave a little hair behind, though

Go to walmart, get some hoppes 9 or any other cleaning solvent, and a brass brush and you can scrub off the rust. if its really bad, you may have to take the gun apart..
