Cleaning a Remington 11-48

I have an old .410 shotgun my Dad gave me. He got it back in the late 60's.

I have it torn completely apart to give it a good cleaning. From the looks of things, it has never been completely apart. I haven't messed with shotguns for alot of years now.

I'm replacing the magazine spring and the action spring for sure. The magazine spring is all deformed and rusty.

When cleaning, is it OK to submerge the entire trigger group and bolt/carrier in something like CLP and let it soak for a while? Just want to make sure there isn't something in all those parts that shouldn't get lubed.

Thanks!

That's fine, there's nothing in there that solvent will hurt.

Before you put the new action spring and magazine spring in, run a brush through the tube until it is clean.

Thanks Scorch. Just wanted to be sure.

Is overnight to long to soak in CLP? Especially for the black finish on the trigger group?

Probably do not have to submerge it, just spray it good and let it sit. First I would hold it under the hot water faucet till gunk stops coming off. [a couple of minutes] shake the water out finish drying with a hair dryer on low to moderate heat. Then spray as said before.
