Clean and lube a P226

I just purchased a SIG P226. I've been shooting a Glock 19. What type of lube is best? I'm not sure where to apply the lube to most effectively oil the rails. Anyone got suggestions? Man is the SIG nice!

Welcome to TFL. Lube tends to be a personal preference around here. Some people like Hoppes, some like RemOil, some even like using synthetic motor oil. Whatever you used on your Glock should make your Sig happy as well.

many opinions, but

may I suggest Break Free CLP; serves a dual role,
as a lubricant and protectant. It won't remove
lead fouling, but it works great for everyting
else.

I strongly recommend using grease on the rails and slide/hammer interface. Tetra Gun products are my first choice...their PTFE grease is a fine lube. Wilson Combat also makes a good grease; it comes in a plastic syringe which makes it really easy to apply in just the right amount.

Like fellow SIGnut, Ala Dan, I also use CLP for cleaning and lubing in other areas.

The Sig (US Headquarters) gunsmiths recommended Breakfree CPL when I called them a few years ago.

I second Zanders recommendation. I use Tetra on all of my handguns (Sigs included). I like it because I can see it when I start shooting and it's still there when I'm done. I think oil cooks off too quickly, although I still use a little rem oil on the outside of the barrel and on the guide rod.
