Hello I am an avid sportsman and have taken many big game trophys and have logged many 100 straights but I have switched my ambitions to live birds and shooting rings and have shot many of them recently and am wanting to find all the official rules and regs and possibly some equiptment if anyone has this info or some boxes they would be willing to sell please let me know
Thanks

Rules and regulations vary from state to state. What state do you live in?

Are you referring to Ringneck Pheasants? Are you looking for boxes for breeding and raising birds?

I'm a pretty avid upland hunter and I'm not sure I understand what you're looking for. Your request is very vague.

Yes I have shot live birds. I do find it more sporting than shooting dead ones!

If you have shot live birds you are aware of the rules as the club/host will give them to you! Also if you have been to a live bird those are the people you want to ask about equipment for birds.

I see this is your 5th post on this site. A word to the wise live bird shooters do not talk about this branch of the shotgun sports on open forums or with strangers. So don't expect people to give you exacting answers. You will find this crowd very tight lipped. ;)

yes i know that they are tight lipped but I am trying to open my own pigeon ring I have 3 air cannons but are looking for a set of spring loaded electronic controled boxes i have shot over some very nice ones at a private invite only shoot and that man gave me the name to the company that makes the boxes but they are very expensive and i had hoped that someone that may have some that they are not using and would like to sell. I tried this firing line forum because in my many web searches I have seen alot of posts about live bird shoots and equiptment:o

Wait, people shoot live birds out of potato cannons that way they can shoot them with a shotgun? Whats the fun in that? That's pretty un-sportsman like and i personally find it offensive. i have no problem with hunting, but that's a little extreme.

Granted I've never participated in this game, but it seems like a stupid way to waste a perfectly good bird.

Shoot at a clay for crying out loud. Give the bird a sporting chance.

Flyers are thrown by a Columbaire, or are launched from a box trap (where the game "trap" came from). Not potato cannons. There are official rules, wagering, etc. Live pigeon shooting was very popular from the turn of the last century through somewhere in the 60's, especially in Europe, and most notably in Monaco where royalty and the upper class of Europe would gather for several days.

Here is what a period looks like. <---

Amazing, isn't it? The wonder of punctuation makes posts readable.

It's a noble sport with a long history. So some birds get blasted... at least they lived a more interesting life than your average chicken. They sometimes even get away cleanly. You couldn't gamble on it if everyone hit every bird.:p

Most pigeon shoot in the US today, while not illegal, are still done quietly and usually by invitation only so as to not attract the unwanted attention by certain PC groups that do not condone such actions. a "race" may be as few as 10 birds or somewhere around 30. The actual entry fees aren't near as expensive as the wagering, and depending on your wallet, can run as much as a house on one shot at the last bird.

They are the most challenging targets due to their unpredictability; similar in many ways to dove - but since they need to fall inside the ring to count, can be much more difficult.

thanks again Oneonceload for the explanaition. I have shot a few of these races and they are great fun and much more challanging than clays. Plus u are very right thats where the money is, if u or anyone else knows of anyone that may have some equiptment or "boxes" please let me know.

Thanks

Flyers, man,, big $$$ purses, big calcuttas, secert society most of the time,a lot of fun, nothing cheap, 1 1/4 by 7.5 by 1220 fps, as much fun as great sex, invitation only. ask around at a Helice shoot, lucky enough to get invited, bring plenty of cash

Several years ago there were shoots in NV

Still are, from indications I have. I know of two places that held them. There is one place I know shooting helice that might have some knowledge.

I have seen helice shoots get as expensive as pigeons......

good luck finding one!

I enjoy them also and 1911 explaines it to a T. Thanks for all the posts if anyone has found any equiptment drop me a private message thanks again.
