did they shellac the lam stocks as well or just solid wood? I would hate to have to remove the shellac to get the stock to look nice.

All the laminate stock M-N's I've seen appeared to have been shellacked.

I'm not sure, but it might well be the adhesives used to glue the laminate stock blanks together are water based, and therefore required a non-porous surface.
