some input on CCW law in PA please?, my youngest son, an avid hunter and shooter has purchased long guns for hunting, revolvers and semis for target shooting etc. etc. Never a problem, yet he recently made application for his concealed carry permit and was denied, we're waiting to find out the whys and wherefores, albeit, he was a problematic child, he never had a conviction. He requested that I try and find out if the same criteria need be met to simply purchase a weapon as is met for CCW. Any and all input would be most greatly appreciated, he is quite upset about this as he's big on the constitution and quite proud of his beliefs, integrity, and his union electrician staus. I don't know the actual specifics for getting a permit in PA, even though I have a non resident one. I suspect the problem was the background check... which more than likely was a government snafu....
a denial can be much like the 'no' in insurance.... from their standpoint there is no harm is saying no... lots of people just go away then and don't take the next step.

It could have been something as simple as filling out the application incorrectly. If he doesn't have a criminal record (make sure you give your social security number to avoid background check mistakes due to similar names), it could also be that the references he listed gave him an unfavorable review when they were called by the sheriff office. You have to list three non family member references from the same county you live in. If he listed some neighbors and was a "problem child" they might have told the sheriff such. Try to fill it out again being sure not to make any errors and list references that you can trust to speak favorably of your character.
