I did find this to be interesting...
Recognizing the futility of civil defense against nuclear war and its ensuing radioactive contamination, the city declares that planning for or participating in civil defense programs purporting to prepare for nuclear attack is futile and dangerous. Therefore, the city will not participate in any civil defense or population evacuation program exclusively intended to be implemented upon the outbreak or threatened outbreak of nuclear hostilities.
Interesting mindset. Because they cannot save everyone, rather than "waste" money and effort on something that might save someone, they are refusing to do anything to possibly save anyone!
I also note that they do exempt and allow the use of fissionable materials in consumer products. That's nice of them, I guess. You cannot make an atomic bomb from fissionable materials. It won't go boom, no matter what you do.
For that, you need fissile material which is much different stuff.
So, apparently you can't have a BB gun, or anything similar under Chicago law. Wonderful. Great advance for public safety in the PR arena, and a way to line the city's pockets (fines) if they decide to enforce it on you.
I see they do allow air guns at carnivals. So here's their logic, if it makes money for the city (carnivals pay for permits) it is allowed. If it doesn't, (private ownership), its not.
For me, in places where they have these kinds of laws, I always wonder, why is it that the voting public is trusted to be smart enough to elect people to public office, but is not trusted to be smart enough to be safe with anything else?
