"City Confidential" -- must read to believe!

Tonight A&E treated us to a "City Confidential" that pushes the envelope of anti-gun bias.

The story dealt with the death of Dr. Michael Halberstam, a DC doctor who died in 1980. Halberstam was a liberal's wet dream: rich heart surgeon who was the bell of all far-left DC society cocktail parties who also went out nights re-stringing the basketball hoops in DC area public parks "so inner city kids could enjoy the 'swish' of the ball passing through the hoop" (I am not making this up). Even better, he was virulently anti-gun, and made TV spots demanding the ban on handguns now in place in DC.

To make a very long story short, one night he and his wife surprised a career criminal burglerizing their home. The burgler made them lie on the floor, showed them his .38 revolver, and then warned them not to follow him. As soon as he left -- yes, you guessed it. The good doctor -- unarmed, of course --jumped to his feet and raced after the burgler. Guess what?? The burgler shot him twice in the chest. There then followed a long an unlikely series of events, ending with the doctor running the burgler down with his car. Subsequently, the doctor died during surgery to remove the bullets.

And according to "City Confidential," the doctor died because of a lack of gun control. Yes, you heard me correctly. The fact that Halberstam was so damn stupid that he chased an armed man who had _warned_ him he would shoot him if chased is the fault of the gun -- and those of us here on this discussion group.

Also included in this episode were cheap shots at Reagan and Nixon as low-lifes -- but not a word about that paragon of virtue, Bill Clinton. More even-handedness, I guess.
And of course the episode ends with a glowing mention of the Million Mom March and Dr. Halberstam's certain approval as he smiles down from Heaven.

I have been a fan of this show and A&E, but no more. This episode was inexcusable. A&E is off my list, as are their sponsors.

I remember that story quite well, and actually used it to combat some anti-gun fanatics during our fight in 1982, Kalif., to defeat Prop. 15.

We used the irony of Halberstam actually trying, even though he was shot and dying, to excecise his most fundamental Right, of killing his killer. He actually used his car and ran over the guy, and that's how the police caught the killer. If Halberstam had recognized reality BEFORE, he was shot, and excercised his Right to protect himself against vicious criminals, he might well not have been shot.

Unfortunately, it was too late for him when reality punched him in the chest... but his primieval instinct for self preservation, caused him to seek to at least, kill his killer. Alas, Halberstam died, and the killer although hurt, lived.

The anti-gun freaks and self defense hating cowards, want all of us to be victims, just like Halberstam... and thousands of other unarmed victims. FWIW. J.B.
