Citori oddity - anybody know this one?

have a citori 12g straight stock 28" 2 3/4 bbls. Production number on barrel matches first five digits serial, so barrel seems to belong to receiver.

here's the catch. last five of serial # is PW103. That would be a 1984 (made in Miroku) but should be 3 1/2" shell capability. That isnt what the barrel says.

I found another guy on shotgunworld who says he had the exact same gun. Says it was sold to him as a SuperLight. But there is specific code for that and it isnt 103.

I called browning support - they are puzzled so far. Anyone have a thought?

I think someone modified it ..../ maybe it was damaged ..and they had the barrel re-worked by someone.

Like you said ...if it were a superlight ...it would have the A13 not the 103 in the serial number for the last 3 numbers ...

the PW does mean it was mfg by Miroku in 1984 ...

...the 103 means it should be a grade 1 Hunting model with 3 1/2" chambers. If it were made as a serial number 103 ...the owner could have shot 2 3/4 shells ( or 3" or 3 1/2" shells in it with no problem )...so it makes no sense to change it ..unless it was damaged somehow / so that's my guess...somewhere in its former life in the last 27 yrs someone changed it.

I assume you've measured the barrels - are they in fact 28" ? I'm assuming it has the older Invector screw in chokes in it right ? - is the barrel marked Invector ...or is it a fixed choke / or is there something else in it ?

12 gauge 3-1/2" shells did not exist in 1984.

I remember seeing something like this back then, straight English grip and forend with a slight schnabel.
