Cimarron Lightning .38 spl

Talk me out of this! I was in a store this weekend and they had a used one out for $350 (ridiculous price, I know - they list for $379). I have to say, though, it was a sweet handling little pistola. Birdshead grip, 3.5" bbl, .38 spl (presumably NOT +P), de facto 5-shooter. I read an article that put the muzzle velocities only around 770 fps. Still, it just felt so nice! For a brief moment I actually thought about trading in the Ruger Blackhawk in .41 - fortunately, a couple of bears showed up in my subdivision the next day and reminded me why I own a 4 5/8" bbl .41 mag . . . .

Does anyone have any experience with these things? Are they Uberti-made, or some fly-by-night operation?

Sheesh, listen to me! It's not even a real caliber, and you can only put cartridges in 5 of the 6 holes for carry. And the store has it priced way too high. Why would I possibly want this thing? Unfortunately, I still kinda DO . . . help me regain my senses!

AFAIK, all the Cimarrons are made by Uberti. Unlike the original Colt DA Lightning, the Cimarron Lightning is just a Single Action with a "birds head" butt.

I ended up passing up all sort of handsome Cimarron guns because of 5-shot/6-chamber aspect and because side-gate loadingmakes checking the loaded status a bit of a pain...but mainly because the same money would go towards more practical guns like Kahr P9.

Hi, Oleg,

Don't let the word get around, but the old timers did not buy a 6-shooter and make a 5-shooter out of it. The old Colts had a much more pointed firing pin than modern ones, and they simply dropped the hammer between case rims, just about like they had done in the percussion Colts with safety pins and in the Remingtons with the safety slots.
