chrony help?

I have been using that exact model for almost two years. It has worked spectacularly. Very few errors, works in a variety of lighting conditions. But the best part of it is the free app for your smartphone. The app records all your strings, does the math for you, and saves you so much time.

Just bought one a few weeks ago. Same experience as above, smart phone app is excellent. Had a 'chrony' beta model before, with the remote display. Had to have a degree in computer programming to figure that thing out. The caldwell is much better imo.

The one I had always showing error very undependable would not work with phone app. Sent it back got Shooting Chrony lot better results for same amount money. You might get good oneworth shot at that price.

I just received My Caldwell Chronometer last Friday. I'm VERY pleased with it. I familiarized myself with it out in my driveway, using a small pellet pistol. I found out my 180 FPS pistol is barely nudging 170 FPS.
Monday We took it out to our plinking spot for the real tests. It worked with my 223, 9mm and 22 pistol. It also worked great with my friend's 45 Colt and 357. The day was partly cloudy and i soon learned to adjust it so the sensors weren't getting direct sunlight.
The app has a short learning curve and worked with both my Android phone and tablet. I love that I can describe my different weapons and reload info. You can also insert notes after-fact with the EXPECTED data from the reload source for comparison with your results.
I basically just found a target that kept the projectiles safely above the chrony so it wouldn't become a victim.
It saves the sessions as you tell it to and you can even insert pictures of your grouping on the target if you wish. Haven't done that part yet.
HIGHLY recommend this unit.

Have you considered the Magnetospeed? Much more accurate and superior to any Chrono using light sensors.

Yes you can use it on handguns, especially if you have a picatinny rail.

My wife thinks I only have 3 guns

I can see a few advantages to the Magnetospeed in some situations. I could take it to our city range, where I couldn't place anything other than my target in front of the firing line.
Disadvantages, like having to physically attach it to 5 different guns like we did.
I like the ability of noting the load data and all of the other parameters WITH the chrony data and the cell phone app is pretty amazing.
Obvious difference in price.
Dealing with the varying light situations with the chrony not that big of a deal.

Funny I have a Chonry with remote read out and its a piece of cake.

I don't get too fancy, just confirm velocity in general and what the SD and ES is.

I just write it down if I need it.

At my age if I relied on my memory I'd be in DEEP trouble. That's why I like that it records as I go along and I can edit/add info as I go.:D

I have one and use the android w/ the downloaded Caldwel app attached to a cable to capture the data. Pending the age of your android, Caldwell may send you a free adapter as the supplied cable will not work w/ all androids. Check w/ Caldwell first before you buy if the app is something you'd like to use. They were fast in the delivery.

If you have a laser for bore sighting, and you use a scope, set it up like you were going to shoot, THEN turn on your laser. Might surprise you how easy it can be to shoot your chrony. Doing the laser exercse cements the awareness of the height difference of your Chrony at 10' while looking at a target 100' further. If you don't have a laser and are using a bolt action rifle, remove the bolt and look down the barrel, then look thru the scope. The laser is more dramatic and can simulate barrel movement/perception quicker.

I like mine and helps in load development associations.

This is a sample of the data that the Caldwell Chrony dumps automatically to your phone. All I added manually was the Description, bullet weight and distance from the Chrony:
