Chroming a revolver -- which is better?

Why would you apply an aftermarket finish on a stainless steel gun?
You can easily polish it to a high shine, buff it to a matte finish, or have it bead blasted. Either way it will be cheaper than putting a finish on it and the stainless steel has no durability problems. Unless you just want to spend money I see no reason for what you want.

Edited to add options.

The looks can easily be represented by the bead blasting and stainless steel doesn't need protecting.

Beadblast. It is renewable. Many CAS shooters had their glossy stainless Ruger single actions beadblasted to reduce glare. I see no reason to spend money to coat a stainless revolver. The beadblasting is cheaper, lasts a long time, is renewable and easily reversible for that matter with polishing.

Stainless can and most certainly will rust. It is rust resistant. Not rust proof. Have lost count of how many stainless pistols I've seen with rust beneath grip panels.

Yes stainless will rust, but it take extreme measures to make them rust. Taking reasonable care of them will prevent rust and that's expected of any firearm.

Go with the Metalife Chromium SS on a stainless gun. It is a very good finish for your needs. It looks like pewter ie dull silver and is more corrosion resistant than conventional hard chrome. I have had several guns finished this way and have been 100% satisfied.
