Chrome on a Premier II

I am thinking about getting chrome on a new Premier II that I am ordering. Can anyone think of a good reason for/against this? Thanks, I get some good information from this forum.

I assume you are talking about Baer's Premier II and hard chroming the entire gun...

On the plus side - A hard chrome job will definately make the gun more rust resistant... Although the bluing is very deep/rich on the Premier II, I know that the same durable high quality steel used from the frame, slide, parts, etc. also makes the gun more susceptable to rust... I used to own two (2) Premier II's, and I never had a rust problem with the standard bluing. But I did take very good care of the gun (basically babied it).

On the negative side - Hard chroming does cost extra, and the gun is already so expensive... Even with a matte hard chrome job, there is more glare from the top of the slide when shooting outdoors on a sunny day. The Premier II comes with a matte bluing at the top of the slide to cut down on glare, and it is pretty effective. Also, some people just don't like the look of a white/silver gun...

In the end though, it really is up to you on how you want the gun to look. My opinion would be to order the gun in a standard blue. If you have a problem with rusting, then you can always send the gun out later for either a hard chrome job, or teflon, or nickle, etc...

jwong,

Thanks. You have a good point, I can always decide to chrome it later.

I have a stainless kimber, and I like the way it looks and is so easy to take care of. My thinking is that the chrome from Les Baer will be the same.

Still haven't made up my mind....

In my experience with Baer pistols, they are very tight when they come form the factory. They need to be broken in, and then they are sooooo sweet. Hard chrome adds to the thiockness of the gun, very slight, but increases just the same. I would not put it on a BAer pistol until you've had it for about a uyear or so so it can loosen up.

Another point is that the Les Baer warranty is shot if anyone else works on the gun. When you get the gun read the warranty very carefully. Shoot the pistol for awhile before you do anything to it. you may just change your mind.

As for hard chroming. It is about the toughest finsh you can put on a gun. My Colt Officers ACP is hardchromed and I love it.

Good luck.
