Chrome lined barrel ?

I have a chrome lined barrel on a fn mauser 98 action 30-06.This is not a military rifle but a commercial rifle imported by J C Higgins and sold by sears in the mid. 50's.

The rifle has a lot of chatter marks in the bore about halfway down, especially on the lands and copper fouls terribly in this area.
Her's my ?'s Can I lap the barrel to remove these or not ? Will it ruin the chrome lined barrel ? Ant other sugg's. will be appreciated also.

Thanks, Henry

Hen, you might be able to lap them out without going through the chrome. Depends on how deep they are and how thick your chrome lining is. I wouldn't firelap. If I was going to attempt this it would be lapped by hand. George

Thanks George,

I think i'm going to play it safe and try some flitz or brasso on a patch and see what that does.If I can get that tight spot out of the barrel or if it stops fouling there i'll be fine.
I'm kind of leary about lapping a chrome lined barrel As you stated if I can lap them out without going through the chrome lining.Well I don't feel that lucky and through the bore scope they look pretty deep. Thanks for you're reply.
