Spoke with Tussy... rather knowledgable gunsmith. Was talking about the Magazines he uses with his chopped .45s... There is one featured in one of the current gun rags titled Damscus Knight. (NICE GUN!) He uses the Metalform mags in it.
The Metal form I tried gave me problems... He mentioned that there is a difference between the older One Holed mags and the newer Three Holed magazines... The 3 holes are the good mags or so he said. I'll test this soon enough.
He mentioned that Detonics, Springfield, Les Baer and Ed Brown all use Government Model frames to cut down to make these Compact guns - when they should be using Comander frames. There is a difference in the frames besides just the length of the dust cover. He mentioned differences in feed ramps and slide rails and even the ejector and extractors... At least in the Detonics - I am not sure. I dont remember all the details.
Talking with Tussy is like drinking from the fire-hose! Seriously - he throws a lot of information at you!
Talking with these experts is a real treat - If anyone has the chance to do so... Milk it for all its worth - you'll get a wealth of information. And TAKE NOTES!
I'll now have to take the mag I have back and get that 3 hole unit.
