Choosing cartridge length/cannelure

Loading some 62 fmjbt hornady's. I've seen it recommended that you should seat the bullet into the middle of the cannelure, the issue is that this leaves me with a COL of 2.225" which seems to be quite a ways below the max length of 2.260. I know that's a max length, and I don't really see a minimum listed in my books, so I'm not sure if the 2.225" would be alright or not?

Also, I saw something that was confusing to me, logically, it seems that the further you seat the bullet, the more pressures would rise on firing. But what I've heard is that this is true only for straight walled pistol cases, but reversed for shouldered rifle cases. Why is this? Volume is volume right? I know I'm missing something, I just want to understand what.

Thanks so much!

That is a new Hornady bullet. It is not listed in my Hornady manual. It might be worth asking them. Most 62 GR bullet data is for steel core M855 or Barnes TSX-FB. Both loaded longer, 2.26 or 2.225 respectively. The Hornady manual does have some 60 GR bullets listed that are loaded to 2.20.
