Choosing a new gun, Need Help!

Ok folks, I am looking at adding another gun to my small weapons collection (mainly knives, a few guns.) I am looking for either a full size 1911 .45 or a full size 9mm. For the 9mm I am looking at Browning Hi-Power and the Beretta 92 series. For the .45, I am kind of stuck on what to look for. I hear good things about para-ordenance. I am interested in giving them a try. I also am interested in looking at a Kimber. Here is the only thing, I can't spend more than $700. I would prefer the .45 first, since I favor bigger caliber ammo. But the 9mm may be the way to go because of money. I already have a Sig P239 for concealed carry, so this would mainly be for playing around at the range and home protection. Thanks in advance.

I'm a big fan of the Para-Ord. I have a Stainless P13.45 and can recommend it. You should be able to pick one up for under 700 bucks. Be careful about mags, though, because some come with one hi-cap and a coupon for 2 more at 50 bucks apiece, while others have different setups. Keep in mind that .45 ammo is slightly more expensive than 9mm ammo.

Why not a Sig 226 in 9mm? $570 to $580 for a new model that has the blackened(nitron) stainless slide. It is full size, but a bit smaller than the 92. Excellent for target practice and plinking.

Were it to be me I'd probably go for the HP. While good HPs aren't rare, there aren't any of the original 9mm HPs coming off the line.

Berettas ship every day. Colts ship almost every day. 1911 clones are legion.

If I were going for one of each, I'd shop for the HP first.

That's assuming that "collection" was one of the operative words in your post. If you're going for what many of us have - which is a "bunch" of guns, each of which struck our fancy at one time or another - then go with whatever strikes your fancy the most at the time.

If money is an issue (and it always is with me as well) I would get a Taurus PT-92/99 and a FEG Hi-Power clone and still have money left over from the $700 budget for some extra mags.

I was promised a Shortycicle and I want a Shortycicle!

I'd opt for a 9m/m Browning Hi-Power "Practical" model. 2nd choice would
be a Sig P226, if you prefer the double
action capability. Lastly, in .45's I'd
choose the Sig P220A!!! :)

if a Hi-Power in any variation other than the matte finished MKIII is on your wish list (such as the Practical or Silver Chrome), buy that HP now! FN will be importing the std MKIII only and Browning is dropping the HP altogether.
