Choices in gunsmith: Manufacturer, or Keith Whaley?

I've gotten in touch with two gunsmiths to do some trigger work on my CZ 75B. Keith Whaley wants $60, and the factory (CZ-USA) wants $150.

What I need to know is, has anyone had a triggerjob done to their CZ? Has anyone used Kieth or the factory in particular? What should I expect from them?

I also have a choice in Joesf Dlask, however I would need to obtain a temporary export permit from the US State Dept through a licensed FFL holder, as his shop is in Canada. Would it be worth it?

I haven't had a trigger job from either, but it's just like cars. The dealer charges more than someone whose livelihood depends on their skill and reputation, and for what? I've never found out and haven't noticed, except that a good private mechanic is usually better than a dealer

Unlike car dealer's service depts., everything I hear about CZ is good, just not worth 2.5x what a professional gunsmith can do.

Is Dlask really in Canada? I thought he was in Wash. State? How many gun owners can there be in Canada to discourage US owners, a MUCH larger market, with all the paperwork and hassle. Not a good business move.

BB,

I don't have personal experience with either. I can only pass on the positive comments I've heard about Keith Whaley. I'm really saddened that CZ USA charges so much for a trigger job. Talk about a way to discourage business. What do they include for that much?

So many pistols, so little money.

Tecolote,

They include smoothing and lightening the DA pull and "totally eliminating" the creep in SA while bringing the SA break to 3.5 lbs. and installing an adjustable trigger.

Kieth was very up-front and said you cannot make a semi-auto like the CZ75 as creep-free as you can with a revolver, or a 1911, but close. He said he could make things smoother and less notchy, reduce the double action pull somewhat, and overall improve the action.

I also want night sights, Kieth uses Trijicons and charges $130. CZ-USA charges $81, I assume theyre Meps.

I'd go with the gunsmith without hesitation. I've never used Keith, but I have heard of his reputation, so I'd suspect he'd do a decent job. $150 for the trigger work is outrageous!
