Choice of carbines

I decided to buy a carbine in the same caliber as one of my handguns (9mm or .357 Mag). It will be used for HD and plinking.

I have 2 remaining options; the Ruger PC9 and the Marlin 1894.

2 questions about the Marlin:

- Problems with .38 spl ?
- Is roundnose ammo a real danger in tubular magazines ?

If the answer is yes on both questions, shooting the Marlin will cost me twice as much as the Ruger.

Any suggestions/comments/ideas ?

Friendly greetings.

The danger caused by pointed bullets in a tubular magazine is real, though much exaggerated. But it is the result of recoil. There is not enough recoil in that little caliber to cause any problems.

The actual problem is usually not understood. What happens is that when the rifle recoils, the mass of the cartridge(s) in the magazine tries to remain in one place, so they move forward relative to the gun, and compress the magazine spring. When the recoil stops, the magazine spring reasserts itself and drives the cartridges backward. That is when a bullet point can come in contact with the primer of the cartridge ahead of it.

As a certain mass is needed, the condition can only occur with several rounds in the magazine, but never with a full magazine.

Hi Luckyd
I have the Marlin levergun in 44 mag. Looks and shoots great.
I have shot a PC9 Ruger, and it too shot quite well.
If you going budget, the Hi Point carbine is a good shooter.
Paper plates at 100 yds are no problem, and it is quite reliable if you can get by the ugly.
My favorite is an AR15 with a Olympic 9mm upper. Tons of fun there. Accurate, dependable, and uses sten mags with the socom adapter. Verrrrrry dangerous to your ammo budget.
Whatever you decide, you will be in for a fun time.
