Choate Ultimate Sniper stocks

Just 1 suggestion: Forget about the Choate stock.
For a bit more you can buy a H-S Precision stock that will work better. Of course, if you want the Dragunov look, it won't fill that need.

I used the Choate Ultimate Sniper stock with my Savage 10FP at a 1000 yard school. It provides extremely good accuracy - up to the gun's potential in my opinion. However, in prone position I found the ergonomics of the squared recess behind the forestock poor. After a lot of shooting my knuckles were bruising up even through a shooting glove. The cheekpiece was also underwhelming and the tallest is too short for a big glass with biased mounts for long range. I had to tape a big section of foam pipe insulation on it.

The following year, liking the contiguous v-block bed for accuracy, I got Choate's Ultimate Varmint stock and put a conventional target shooter's aluminum hand rest on its forward rail. That ended the knuckle bruising. The cheekpiece was just as inadequate on this model (same one). I wound up buying an adjustable cheekpiece mount from O.K. Weber to install and made my own platform to fit my face. The rifle is now user friendly to me.

Be aware this kind of customizing is not uncommon to have to undertake with any brand of stock you fit. The Choates are heavy and steady, but they are molded plastic and will not look as refined as the more expensive composite layups. The thermoplastic also will not be so paint friendly.

Prime8, I bought a Hogue over molded stock with the full bedding block for a rem. 700 .308,the stock came from a broker auction online and did not fit. I e-mailed Hogue and ended up sending it back for a new one. To make a long story short I got stuck on the auction but the manufacture stands fully behind their product. The stock now fits like a glove and has a soft pebble finish that will lie on anything and gives a very good grip.

Any other suggestions?

I do not want a regular monte carlo style stock. Im pretty set on a skeleton style. My sporter stock is just too small. Not the weight, just the overall width, and feel. Im lookinfor something with at least a thumb hole, but prefer a pistol grip. Any suggestions gents?
