CHLer driving to Alabama from Texas

I am from Texas and am driving to Mobile, Alabama next week. I have a Texas CHL. To my knowledge Alabama does not have reciprocity with Texas. Where does that leave me once I cross the Mississippi/Alabama border? Can I carry in the car? Do I have not notify someone if I go in their house with a gun? If I do carry in the car, will a police officer see that I have a CHL in Texas if he scans my drivers license?

well, kinda short notice, but...

I have a friend in AL that I visit each March, and then we continue on to Daytona. So, I am in the same predicament. I did some reearch and by procuring a NH non-resident permit, I am covered through AL, FL, and even GA (his brother lives near Atlanta, and we have been known to take the long way round) and probably a few more.

The NH non-resident permit costs $20 for four years, and links to the forms are available on packing.org. No training course required, just a current CHL from any state recognised by NH. As I moved recently, I am waiting for my new TX CHL with current address to arrive, and I will have mine before my next trip east.

PM me if you have trouble finding the form, I have it saved as a pdf to my desktop.

yes I looked it over. Looks like my only option is to get an inconspicuous lockable kit tomorrow at the Geo. R. Brown Gunshow in Houston to lock my gun away. Have to get something that looks just like luggage to the people I am with.

I'd rather my passenger not know of my gun, but I don't see an option
