CHL=no NICS?

Is this true nationwide or is it state by state? Do the dealers just "forget" to mention it so they can charge you for the NICS?

It's true only if the CHL is valid for < 5 years or something (i.e. that you could not get into and out of jail without going past expiry date - for most felonies), and required an FBI check to get the permit.

Believe it or not, my Massachusetts "Class A" carry permit does not require me to go through a NICS check. This will change when i renue it in 2003.

That's the way it works in Indiana as well.

Here in Georgia, posession of a "Georgia Firearms License" exempts you from scrutiny by VeriFax.

As far as your dealer "charging" you for NICS goes, we charge $5 per background check. The GBI bills us $5 per background check. If this is some kind of profit-making scam, it's a wildly inefficient one...
