I have an early Chip 45 that I bought about 25 years ago, I've been trying to find information about this pistol with no luck. I've never encountered another. I know that now the McCormick co. is located in Spicewood, TX but, this pistol is made in Austin. Anyone have any info on this pistol?

They used to make custom 1911s before everyone and their sister started up a shop to make them, kind of like RRA before they started to make AR's and uppers.

Some of the Titanium parts were gimmicky, but that's a nice GI repro.

Chip McCormick played a large role in designing the modular hi-cap frame that was the basis for the current STI and SVI products.
Initially, the frame was available from McCormick and "TRI", which, IIRC, stood for Tripp Research International. The partners in TRI went their separate ways, creating STI and SVI, and McCormick, who used to sell a lot of hammers, safeties, grips, and other small parts in addition to magazines, got out of the serialed parts business.
I hadn't remembered that they sold a complete gun.

I laid away a McCormick officer model Colt. Nice little Colt that i'll probably carry. Definitely not a plastic trigger or mainspring housing. It's purported to be hand fitted with McCormick upgrades by the Colt custom shop. It sure looks like a fine pistole!

Colt made a few pistols featuring McCormick parts. I remember the "McCormick Factory Racer", one of which showed-up on gunbroker, not too long ago.

Thank you all for the input thus far. Just curious if many where built as complete pistols in Austin, TX. I keep this as my primary carry/defense weapon, accuracy is outstanding. I never see or hear about these, I've heard from a gunsmith that he believes these where built by STI....?

In my opinion, it looks like what a 1911 is supposed to look like. Simple, elegant and I bet reliable. :)

I am not a fan of skeleton triggers and elongated beaver tails not to mention the horrendous looking grips on some.

Looks like a nice 1911.

How does it shoot?

WVsig, re: how does it shoot. Well It will eliminate any threat, very accurate.
It is a natural pointer, very well balanced.

1911

There was a vendor selling 1911's put together someone and selling for about $675 at a gun show in Pasadena, TX this past weekend. I should have spoken to him but I forgot to go back and do that. Maybe I can see him at a next show.

Oh man, I like that.

It has some age... I like. It is plain... I like. It drops names... I like. It is made in my town... I like. I'm visualizing one just like it turning up in a pawn shop near me!

Very nice. If you want to sell it, the names Harry, FilthyHarry. ;)
