just bought a copy of the winchester 1897 made in china fore century international arms. paid $175 for it in perfect almost looked like unfired. did i get a deal? and where can i find a heat sheild for it? i would like to make it look like an old trench gun as much as possible. do the universal heat shields like what cheaper then dirt sell work? thanks for your time! if i have time after work i will post pics

Numrich probably has the original heatshields, but you have to cut two fairly large divots out of the bottom of the barrel out near the muzzle to retain the heatshield/bayonet lug. I'd probably just leave it as is...and yeah, good deal.

Chinese products in general

While not always possible, I avoid Chinese made products as much as I can. My 1st choice is always American made. I've been to Shanghai China. I was not impressed. The people had no patriotism, their factories were poluting the ground, water and air with abandon and the people were indifferent to down right rude. The only people that showed ANY hospitality were the companies hoping to do business with us. I've traveled to a few other foreign countries and all of the others, regardless of how poor had some redeeming value, except for the Chinese. I will gladly save my money a bit longer and buy an American made product whenever possible. I'm not passing judgement on your buying choices, I'm just sharing my point of view. I prefer to keep my dollars here in the USA as much as I can.
