Chicom Makarov Reputation

ChiCom Maks have high collector demand but bad rep as shooter. Anyone have personal history to backup bad rep or is this just scuttlebutt? Have handled only one and it had nice finish and trigger, much nicer piece than the Russian I purchased in 93. Thanks.

I have a M59 Norinco Mak, and it is a very accurate pistol that has never failed to go "bang", feed or eject with any kind of 9mm Mak ammo. The finish is a nice deep blue, and the Norinco looks better than the brand new Bulgie Maks I see at gun shows all the time.

While the Mak itself might have a good reputation, let's take a look at the Chicom reputation before giving them money.

Can we honestly say that this is a country that we want to support? They might have MFN trading status, but that's political and pretty much out of our control (there's another debate). We can, however, not add salt to the wound by further contributing to their success.

Makarov.com is selling Bulgarian maks for $150. Is the chicom better? Are the Bulgarians trying to democratize? Personally, I'd buy a used 1911 before considering a far cheaper Mak, but to each their own. Just don't go chicom.

When Reason Fails.....

I had a Norinco Mak a few years ago and regret selling it. Functioned perfectly
and had an inexplicably beautiful bluing
job. Sold it for $75 more than I paid for
it and $30 more than the Bulgarian Mak I
bought last year. I should have just held
onto it.

By now the PRC has spent all the money it received from the sale of pistols such as the Mak. They haven't been imported in quite a while.

So many pistols, so little money.
