Chicago slave reparations now - 'I want a Lexus!'

This has always struck me as odd. I mean, where would I rather be today, here in America with all this freedom and opportunity or dodging bullets in the Congo? Personally I'd say thank you.

And they wonder why there are race troubles, none of these guys has ever been a slave. It is a disgrace to all of the african americans that have worked hard and accomplished something to be subjected to redicule for the greed of the few. The fact of the matter is these guys want something for nothing and guess who they'll want to pay for it. Even the upstanding blacks that would want no part of this hand out will be milked along with the rest of us to pay for these greedy people to live the good life.

I see nothing wrong with people who have NEVER BEEN SLAVE OWNERS (ie taxpayors) giving money to people who have NEVER BEEN SLAVES.
c'mon where's the problem??
NW is right, most currently breathing African-American US citizens would likely not exist if their ancesters had remained in Africa given the death rates of the past (and current) generations of African people 'of color'.
Also note, the slave trade on that continent was largely run by arabs and certain african tribal leaders.
If someone feels overwhelming guilt at their ancestral dispositions- then they should feel free to pay monetary damages to the victims descendants. But don't bring me into it.

So, if your ancestors came over as indentured servants, wouldn't that mean you would get a small cut as well?

What would keep any schmoe from claiming his ancestors were slaves and that he was entitled to a cut? If required to prove it, couldn't you pull the "damn slave owners destroyed the records" bit? Other than looks (racial profiling) isn't it impossible to determine if an ancestor came from Africa (if you're a Darwin type, that means everyone)?

"So reparations are due me," she said. "I want 40 acres and a Lexus. Keep the mule."
Enuff said.

Anyone who pays income tax is a slave. Unfortunately that includes ME. I'll take a Lexus -- thank you very much.

As as kid, I was picked on in school because I was the only Chinese-American kid in the class. Ohhhh, I'm so mentally damaged! Only 10 million dollazrs will make me feel better. Waaaaaahahhhhhhhhahhahah!

Slaves were quite valuable to southern planters..... Who is going to compensate the decendents of the planters for the loss of "property". JUST KIDDING !!
On a serious note ... If you read anything about the "reconstruction" of the south, you'll learn that the south was punished very severely after the War of Northern Agression. In fact, the resentment that some southerners still feel toward the north stems from reconstruction.....NOT losing the war. By the way, the war was fought for States Rights. The slavery question was merely the moral justification for the north to fight an (at the time) unconstitutional war.

Just when I was beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, I realized it was a freight train.

Both grandparents on my father's side came to America after being freed from the concentration camps.

They don't want money from Germany, who directly (not 6 generations ago) committed horrible acts against them personally. They are happy to be living in this country.

It is all yet another me-first money-making scheme cooked up by the racist "minority".

But, I thought reparations was the process where the damaged party received compensation from the damage giver(??).

Maybe I'm all wet on that.

I still fail to understand why I'm expected to pay for a guilt trip that I'm not taking!!

I've an ancestor who fought in the CW, on the Union side, not that that matters.
He was also a POW in Tyler TX. Didn't he already pay enough for this?? WTF!!!

If they get their "reparations", then I expect to be paid back for his trying to save their a$$e$ while a soldier...

"Reparations are payable when a crime against humanity has been committed by one people against another," said Rep. Bobby Rush, a co-sponsor of the Conyers bill. "Those who commit a crime against humanity must pay."
And I can only assume what he's saying then, is that they're going after the survivors of the African tribesman who raided their villages, and sold their ancestors to the Portugese slavers. The original enactors of the sin of slavery.

Best Regards,
Don

The most foolish mistake we could make would be to allow the subjected people to carry arms; history shows that all conquerers who have allowed their subjected people to carry arms have prepared their own fall.

Heck, we paid enough in Federal Income Taxes alone last year to buy a pretty nice damn Lexus.

So if this lame-brained idea ganis any creedence, what do I need to do to "win"? Start marking idiot government forms asking for my race "African-American"? Horse apples!

It's funny how people who think they are due something (in this case reparations) never seem to look at the other side of the ledger.
What did the Civil War cost?
Compute that in currency adjusted to todays inflation please.
How many men lost their lives fighting that war?
What were those lives worth?
What hardships did their families have to suffer because of that loss?
What was the monetary value of their sacrifice? (In todays dollars)
How much has the government spent on various programs designed to help these decendants of slavery over the years?
How much have the innocent victims of affirmative action lost in earning capacity over the years due to getting passed over for a job promotion or an educational or training opportunity?
And since certain politicians seem to think that they can sue gun companies for this, how much has the higher crime rate in minority communities cost the taxpayer?
Let somebody figure that out. Adjust for inflation and add interest. Then let's match it up with the bill for reparations and see which side of the balance sheet comes to a greater total.

Maybe we can all get Jaguars and Aston Martins from Great Britain.

My relatives in Ireland were sold into slavery by Lord Cromwell...

I WANT my Bentley NOW!!

And the Jaguar, the Rolls, the Lotus, and the Range Rover.

NOW! Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Most citizens of America today are decendents of immigrants that came here AFTER slavery was abolished.
Why do we all have to pay?

Also, people fought and DIED to FREE the slaves. How about some thanks?
Just as many people that were for slavery, there were even more that were against it. Seems to me like they should be thanking us for freeing them. And the bonus is, they get to live in a America where they can live a wonderful life with a little effort.

I want another 1911-type. And a MechTech CCU. And a 98K Israeli surplus Mauser. And a SIG Blaser R93 in .308. And a ...
